In the mid 1990s, a WCTL "Senior Circuit" for players 50-and-over was launched by the late Lee Gunst, long one of the top doubles players in Westchester.
Originally a doubles-only league, with three matches constituting a team match, the number of teams and the number of matches has continued to grow over the years . . . first to four doubles matches constituting a team match and then, in the late 1990s, to two singles and three doubles matches constituting a team match. The third set in any match is a Super-Senior-First-to-10 Tie Break. Optionally, a third full set may be played if a players in the match agree prior to the beginning of the match.
The Senior Circuit honored the memory of its founder by renaming its two divisions the Lee and the Gunst some 10 years ago. Senior Circuit play begins at the conclusion of the WCTL's regular season.
